Here is her story:

Hi Everyone, I would like to ask for your help to take my business to the next level. I set up a small business.about 8 months ago focusing on distribution of Organic Fortified Soy Powder Products including Soy Milk, Rice Milk, Fortified Porridges in the Kenyan and East African Market. Our products are categorized specifically to target general consumer market and specific products for Humanitarian and Government agencies in the management of malnutrition, low immunity, body wastage and provision of foods fortified with essential micronutrients.

We have finished the set up and making of the initial contacts and the reception from the two markets has been positive. Uptake at the retail stores has started picking up with three local stores on board which we anticipate will open doors to the 5 major supermarket chains taking in our products. We have held studies with the government approved research body in Kenya for acceptability of our porridge and the results sent out to the agencies with over 80% acceptance.
However we need to Rebrand and repackage our products to meet our local market based on the market survey/Dip Study and the recommendations from the acceptability studies. This include Rebranding the package for the two target groups including instructions for use to local language. Repackaging in appropriate SKU’s. We currently have only one SKU for each as provided by the manufacturer Introducing of different flavors as we currently have only one flavor Vanilla and yet the products have different flavors. This is going to cost us and we felt that it is important to get the basics and look for the most cost effective way including buying our own packaging machines to repackage into different weights locally, design and print the packaging materials locally, introduce the products into the market officially through cost effective ways focusing more on social media as the main avenue, and visibility through posters and fliers.
Thank you very much and i look forward to your support.

Female Entrepreneurs: The Rise, the Gap & the Questions!!

Make It A Brand

Female Entrepreneurs are the most important result of modern day feminism. Because the word has always been, and continues to be under constant scrutiny, I want to simplify the definition and in doing so, elucidate the role it has played in the propagation of female business persons. A feminist is someone who believes the social, political and economic equality of the sexes. Women today have the freedom to choose, if not completely, but in part what they want to pursue as their academic or economic futures. This has of course led to several women choosing to be investment bankers, business owners and CEO’s of multi-national corporations.

Entrepreneurship is defined by the process of starting a business or other organization. The entrepreneur develops a business model, acquires the human and other required resources, and is fully responsible for its success or failure. Women have made and managed homes with such finesse…

Female Entrepreneurs Are Happier Than Male Entrepreneurs | Forbes.com

Dispatches From The Front

Statistics for women in business are mostly bleak. For example, women still earn 77 cents to every dollar men make and just 7% of female-backed teams get venture funding. A recently released study however, offers a glimmer of positivity. When women have established businesses, they are actually happier than their entrepreneurial male counterparts, as well as rating their well-being more than twice as high as non-entrepreneurs and non-business owners, according to the 2013 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor GEM U.S. Report.

There was one caveat – female entrepreneurs who are just starting out are less happy than male entrepreneurs in the start-up phase, says Edward Rogoff, one of the reports authors. One out of 10 women in the U.S. is starting or running a new business, the report also found. This rate is higher than any of the other 24 developed economies measured.

Here is her story:
This campaign is to start a store. Not just a regular store but a women made, women run, women inspired community store. It is a place where women can bring in their items to sell and be proud financial contributors to their homes.

We have all seen those baby bows, candles, baskets, crochet blankets, paintings and items made by great mom artist at flea markets and community events. Well here is a store where the women in my community can bring in their items and showcase them all year round.

Here is the amazing format:

1 – Moms bring their items to the shop

2 – We charge one flat fee to cover store cost

3 – They keep full profits

4 – They contribute to the financial balance of their homes and proudly serve their communities.

We want to build an income for families and with this format and your help we know we can.

Just 45 proud women vendors in the shop means 45 families with extra income for food, children clothes, gas in their vehicles, childcare payment… whatever their goal is and that’s one less load to carry too. Especially for single moms creating income is not only a need but a great sense of pride.

We all can’t open our own stores but together we can. We are counting on you to impact this community with your love, prayers, and kindness. No gift is too small.

This is a project where everyone can truly make a difference. And we like it that way. It makes every step more meaningful. We want local contractors to help us build shelves, we want local businesses to donate books for our children’s area, we want our moms to volunteer at the store… we want every step to be marked with love.

So mark our campaign with your love today.

Please consider donating. Any amount would be helpful.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ….
enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own even if she never wants to or needs to…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ….
something perfect to wear if the employer or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE …
a youth she’s content to leave behind….

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ….
a past juicy enough that she’s looking forward to retelling it in her old age….

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE …..
a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ….
one friend who always makes her laugh… and one who lets her cry…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ….
a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ….
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a recipe for a meal that will make her guests feel honored…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ….
a feeling of control over her destiny…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
how to fall in love without losing herself..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
HOW TO QUIT A JOB,
BREAK UP WITH A LOVER,
AND CONFRONT A FRIEND WITHOUT RUINING THE FRIENDSHIP…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
when to try harder… and WHEN TO WALK AWAY…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
that she can’t change the length of her calves, the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
that her childhood may not have been perfect…but it’s over…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
what she would and wouldn’t do for love or more…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
how to live alone… even if she doesn’t like it…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
whom she can trust,
whom she can’t,
and why she shouldn’t take it personally…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
where to go…
be it to her best friend’s kitchen table…
or a charming inn in the woods…
when her soul needs soothing…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
what she can and can’t accomplish in a day…
a month…and a year…”

FEATURED CAMPAIGN OF THE DAY: A Safe Place, a program for Whitehorse Women Needs Your Help.

safe_house

A Safe Place is a weekend evening low-barrier drop-in space for women and children in Whitehorse, run by a partnership of the Victoria Faulkner Women’s Centre, the Yukon Status of Women Council and the Second Opinion Society. It runs from 6-9 pm on Fridays, and 5-8:30 on Saturdays and Sundays at the Women’s Centre. A hot meal, support and activities are provided, with two facilitators present each night.

The program began following a research project by the Yukon Status of Women Council called “Repairing the Holes in the Net’, which identified a need for women and children-only spaces on weekend evenings. The women who come have expressed their appreciation for a time and place in which they can relax, warm up, or simply enjoy the company of other women. The low-barrier nature of the program means that women are welcome to come in at any time, without requiring them to be sober.

Up until now, A Safe Place has been able to run thanks to funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research, the Mental Health Commission of Canada, the Women’s Directorate and the United Way. However, that funding will be running out at the end of July. This campaign hopes to secure $6000 which will allow the program to run into September, and will give us time to seek longer-term funding.

The $6000 will cover the costs of food, the salaries of the facilitators, supplies such as toiletries, and the costs of keeping the women’s centre open after hours.

Please consider #donating. Any amount would be helpful.
